Tribal communities in this area represent deep reservoirs of cultural diversity, traditional wisdom, ecological knowledge, and resilient social systems. Yet, they also face continuous transformations through modernization, migration, state policies, and globalization.This interdisciplinary volume aims to present critical analyses, ethnographic insights, and comparative reflections on the meanings of “tribe” and “tribalism” in Southeast Asia—through historical, political, cultural, and developmental perspectives. The book aspires to contribute to ongoing academic dialogues and policy debates surrounding indigeneity, autonomy, and inclusive development.
